A staggering
number
of women
around the world will experience
rape
or other violence
in their lifetimes. The UN Secretary General says 1
out of every 3.
That is one billion women. Imagine One
Billion Women Rising to end the violence!
And a billion men rising with us.
Organizations
and individuals
around the world have been working
long and hard to
stop rape and
gender
violence in conflict.
The International
Campaign to Stop Rape & Gender Violence in Conflict,
spearheaded by the Nobel Women’s Initiative, is bringing them
together to develop
and carry
out coordinated plans of
action
to help end this wanton scourge.
The Campaign will
also press for specific prevention,
protection, and
prosecution
measures and
advocate for a dramatic increase in resources
to
support
survivors
and achieve
justice.
Together
we will create a broad grassroots movement. The more
organizations and
individuals
working in
tandem for change, the faster
we can make that change happen. In September 2011, with the
Campaign’s Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee, we began developing our
strategy for moving the Campaign forward. We are preparing for a
formal launch of the Campaign.
We
invite organizations and individuals to actively join the
International Campaign to Stop Rape and Gender Violence in Conflict.
We
invite those who are unable to actively participate to endorse the
Campaign and its Call.
