In 2006 the Nobel Women's Initiative was founded by the Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, Wangari Maathai, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Betty Williams and Mairead Maguire in order to bring together their extraordinary experiences in a united effort for peace with justice and equality. In 2011 Aung San Suu Kyi became an honorary member followed by Leymah Gbowee and Takkol Karman in 2012. In more than 110 years of the Nobel Peace Prize only 15 women were honored. The Nobel Women’s Initiative uses the prestige of the Nobel Peace Prize and of courageous women peace laureates in order to support work being done by women focused on women's rights all over the world.
28th-30th May the 4th Nobel Women's Initiative Conference will take place in Belfast. The title of this year's conference will be "Moving Beyond Militarism & War: Women-driven solutions for a non-violent world."
