At the end of May 2014, UN Women launched the Bejing+20 campaign "Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity". For twelve months, the campaign will remind of the Bejing Platform for Action. In July the focus is on Women in Power and Decision-making, who advance social change.
Almost 20 years ago, ten thousands of women called into life the Bejing Platform for Action at the Fourth World Conference on Women. Participants mapped twelve critical areas of concern, among others environment, economy, media, human rights, education, poverty, health and violence against women and developed concrete claims and pratical solutions to forward gender equality world wide.
The official celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Bejing Platform for Action will be held at the 59th Session of the UN-Commission on the Status of Women in Spring 2015 in New York.
