Armed group Islamic State (IS) perpetrates massive sexualized violence on minorities in Iraq

The armed group Islamic State (IS) are reported to continously commit crimes of "sexual violence against women and teenage girls and boys belonging to Iraqi minorities". It is feared that 1,500 Yazidi and Christians have been forced into sexual slavery.

In a joint statement the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Ms. Zainab Hawa Bangura strongly condemned the barbaric acts of savage rapes constituting grave violations of human rights.
