Asma Jahangir spent decades of her live to defend women, children, religious minorities and the poor in difficult cases before the law. Pakistan's leading human rights lawyer opened the first legal aid centre in Pakistan in 1986 and was elected first female President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan in 2010. For her speaking truth to power, she has been repeatedly threatened, faced public assault and was placed under house arrest.
