Luxemburg Prime Minister first EU leader in same-sex marriage

In early May, Luxemburg prime minister Xavier Bettel wed his long-term partner Gauthier Destenay. The wedding followed the legalization of gay marriage by the Roman Catholic duchy in Luxemburg in January 2015. Bettel is the first state leader of the European Union to live in a same-sex marriage - the first head of state to marry a same-sex partner worldwide was former prime minister of Iceland, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, who wed her partner Jónína Leósdóttir in 2010.
