Andrea Spehar is a research fellow at the Centre for European Research (CERGU) and a senior lecturer within the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg.
Research interest
Her main current research interest focus on the migration policies in the EU, gender and migration, political parties and migration politics. Other interest concerns the political and social developments in Central and Eastern Europe since the fall of the communist systems and in particular gender policy development. Andrea Spehar defended her dissertation in October 2007. The title is: How Women’s Movements Matter. Women’s Movements’ Strategies and Influence on Gender Policy Formation in Post-communist Croatia and Slovenia (2007). The dissertation investigates the strategies of women’s movements in Croatia and Slovenia attempting to influence four gender policy areas: violence against women, anti-discrimination policy, parental leave and pension reform.
Current research
She is currently working on a series of papers exploring how mainstream political parties in Europe grapple with the challenges associated with immigration policy.
Teaching and tutoring
Andreas's teaching mainly concerns the European Union, post-communist transition, gender equality, social policy, migration as well as thesis supervision and examination of bachelor and master students.
