While the participation of women in UN peacekeeping endeavors has been recognized as essential to combat sexual and gender-based violence, the number of female Peacekeepers remains as low as three percent. In cooperation with the Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK), UN Women India has developed training courses women who want to serve as UN Peacekeepers. This pilot-project has recently started its first courses and is set to become the model for trainig female Peacekeepers, and includes modules on preventing sexual and gender based violence, as well as breaches of women's rights.
