A foreseeable measure at the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was the fact that the European Center For Constitutional And Human Rights (ECCHR) together with two colmbian NGO's - Sisma Mujer and Colectivo Abogados José Alvear Restrepo - recently submitted a criminal complaint against Colombia to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
In the course of the decades spanning violent conflict between leftist guerilla groups, right-wing paramilitaries and the colombian military sexualized violence against women and girls has become a severe problem.
Particularly the low rate of convictions - which declines towards none when it comes to charges against members of the colombian military - outrages the petitioners. They assume that sexualized violence is used as a systematic military strategy in the conflict and therefore constitutes a crime against humanity.
